One of the great evidences for the divine origin of the Bible is the existence of the Jewish people as a distinct group and the reemergence of Israel among the nations of the world. In Genesis 12:2, 3 God promises to make Abram's descendants into a great nation. In Genesis 13:14 He promises to give Abram's descendants the land of Israel as an inheritance forever. In Deuteronomy 28-33 God warns Israel through Moses that if they disobeyed they would be temporarily taken from their land by force, but that He would later bring them back from all the nations they were scattered to.

Nearly 150 years before his birth, the prophet Isaiah foretold the birth of King Cyrus, his name, and the tasks that God had predetermined for him to accomplish. Through him, God destroyed Babylon, putting an end Israel's 70 year exile in Babylon as foretold by the prophet Jeremiah (Jeremiah 25:11-12). It is from this event that the prophet Daniel dated his seventy-week prophecy that fixed the year for the Messiah's death and resurrection, and reveals the sequence of events for the Messiah's return which will bring an end to human rule of the earth, and usher in the government of God to rule over the entire earth.
